Apple Day 2015

For the second time in three years we held an apple day in order to process the large number of apples which the trees within our grounds provide. This year the Nutley Hall apple day coincided with national apple day on which more can be found here. We were blessed with a gorgeous day and were thus able to do a lot of the pressing and crushing outside in the sunshine. We were joined by a large group from Pericles who helped to wash and crush the apples for juice. We had groups making chutney, picking apples, making juice, making dried apple rings and two groups processing for apple crumble for lunch and baked apples for supper. Lastly we must thank The Mount and Rachel Laidlaw for lending us their fruit presses, Michael Hall School for lending us their fruit crusher (somewhat like a large beef mincer), Brambletye Fruit Farm for pasturizing the juice so that it keeps longer & finally Alan for the photographs which you can see below.
