woodwork

The woodwork workshop is open to residents of all ages and abilities. Residents can work solo or as part of a team on a wide variety of projects, ranging from musical instruments, to furniture, to children’s toys and much more. They are encouraged to decide what to make, how to make it and to do as much as possible by themselves in order to help build confidence, imagination, cognitive and motor skills. The projects made here are constructed predominantly from recycled timber.

There is a great focus on the use of hand tools to help coordination and an understanding of the materials used. Basic mathematics are learnt through measuring and marking, reinforced by similar skills and methods in the other workshops.
