At about 8am on the morning of the Garden Party, the rain was constant. Wet bunting was flapping in the wind, the benches that only a few hours later were meant to host a crowd of visitors were drenched. Amazingly, the weather cleared, light wind and the warmth of the sun, now penetrating through thinning layers of clouds, dried the site (with the help of our prep crew, armored with towels!). And so by the time the first guests arrived, the atmosphere on our main lawn was fit for a party. Song and music filled the air, a delicious array of cakes, stalls bustling with activity. As this was a fundraising event for the weavery refurbishment project, our weavers brought two looms out and invited the guests to experience weaving. Despite some initial reluctance, many of them did, and once they got into the flow, found it difficult to stop weaving… a beautiful image of a circle of residents, family and friends whose life is in some respects woven together. A real celebration of community.
